This Week’s Fishing Report
February 25, 2026
The bluefin bite off Hatteras is very real right now.
Captain Shaun Dunn and 1st Mate Clay aboard the Dunn Deal, a 42' Ocean Custom out of Teach’s Lair Marina, made the run in tough winter conditions and found the fish.
Water temperature was holding at 44 degrees. Air temp hovered around 39 degrees at first light. Winds were diminishing through the morning but still pushing 20–26 mph, with a steady 6–8 foot swell on a 12-second interval. Not exactly a pleasure cruise — but that’s bluefin fishing this time of year.
They went 7 for 8 on the day and put a solid 72-inch fish on the dock.
That fish dressed out at 220 pounds — plenty of sushi and thick tuna steaks headed for the table.
When the weather gives you a window, the bite is there.
